New Anthea Missy mural in Cape Town South Africa for IPAF festival themed ‘WE ARE NATURE’, curated by Baz Art. The street art piece was painted in popular area of Salt River and showcases a powerful statement about nature. The process of creating the mural has involved community sketch review of Anthea Missy’s proposed public artwork and local support in the making of the mural.
‘I have enjoyed uplifting the neighbourhood and receiving so much positive energy from the local community with regards to the message. Trees and vegetation contribute to our oxygen and our psychological balance on a daily basis and I wish public authorities and people to work hand in hand to preserve it ‘, says the artist.
‘Save our trees, save us’ concept was originally created by Anthea Missy to support community awareness of vegetation within the urban landscape of her hometown Brussels. ‘Dozens of trees were chopped down despite 4000-signatures petition calling for public participation and co-creation of public space. To become a smart city, co-creation with public space users should be on top of the list for politicians.’
