NAF-MK makes NAPL STATE OF MIND 2015-05-31

NAF-MK ‘s latest mural done in Materdei (NAPLES) is part of a chain of works he is applying about the city of Naples. According to the artist he has been inspired by vintage postcards and lithographs and he wants to bring to light the soul of Naples which is constantly poised with a mix of tradition and modernity.

In this piece of work he represents the three scugnizzi ( street urchins) eating macaroni, a much used and stereotyped image in the postcards and popular representations of Naples. To these figures he has added details that point to today’s popular style (which barely goes towards modernity) such as a pair of sunglasses, a stylish haircut, a tattoo or a hiphop style cap, under the concept that Naples, in an era of globalization, has to do deal with its past, its traditions and its history.

The idea was born by the love for the city. a city that either you love it or hate (as it is shown in the tattoo of the street urchin. love & hate) and then Naples is a bustling city, it is a great source of inspiration. A town, full of art treasures. and in a certain sense, with his works, it is like if he returns everything he received from it.

It is his gift to the city.
