THE POSITIVITY SCROLLS

Looking inside the heart of Pairoj Pichetmetakul, a Thai monk turned street artist as he paints large scale portraits of the homeless and displaced. Much of this dialogue is recorded as written text alongside each portrait, which are kept as a continuous large scroll of heavy-grade paper, creating a long form illustrated journal. The art is a conduit for conversation.

The “Positivity Scrolls” ask this very question. We seek to know art better, and know our hearts better; is it resolving anything for him or for the world around him? We seek compassion, we seek to highlight the unnoticed and overlooked with an intention to inspire others, raise esteem, change expectations & preconceptions, and reveal histories

”My artwork cannot change the world, but I hope to help uncover positivity within individuals on a small scale, by example, through the mechanisms of art and unwavering positive engagement”.

THEY ARE LOOKING FOR FUNDING FOR A SERIES OF PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS DEALING WITH HOMELESSNESS. THESE INSTALLATIONS ARE AN EXTENSION OF A PROJECT STARTED BY A THAI MONK WHO WANTED TO CONFRONT HOMELESSNESS ON BOTH THE SOCIAL AND INDIVIDUAL LEVELS. THE INSTALLATIONS CONSIST OF PORTRAITS OF THE LOCAL HOMELESS COMMUNITY AND ARE DISPLAYED IN VERY PUBLIC AREAS SO A WIDE SWATH OF THE PUBLIC CAN SEE THE CREATIVE AND ARTISTIC MERITS OF AN OTHERWISE DISREGARDED POPULATION. OUR GOAL NOW IS TO GAIN FUNDING SO WE CAN BRING THE PROJECT TO VARIOUS LOCALITIES. ALL ALONG THE WAY, WE ARE BUILDING A FILM OF THE WHOLE PROJECT WHICH ULTIMATELY WILL EXPAND THE SCOPE OF THE MISSION FROM THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ART INSTALLATIONS TO A TRULY GLOBAL AUDIENCE.

You may consider a modest donation — however much you can afford, when it comes from the heart, it’s the kind of gesture that makes us warm with appreciation.
