On August 8th, a new art installation was presented to the inhabitants of the city of Lodz, Poland. It was made by Jerzy Janiszewski, Polish artist and designer, who came to Lodz at the invitation of the Urban Forms Foundation. The large-scale work constructed in the very center of the town represents the aesthetics of joy, still rare in the Eastern Europe.

Artist visited Lodz twice, getting to know the city, and working on the concept with the designers of the AGG Grabowski Architects Group Design Office and executors of the Cayenne Visual Communication Company. As a result, a design of artistic installation consisting of four steel towers was created. On this large frame a network with thousands of multicolored ribbons is stretched. To complete this piece of art 50 people cut and tied 50 kilometers of ribbons.

The colourful cloud affects not only the sense of sight, but hearing – ribbons moved by wind create a unique concert for the city. Energizing, rustling and iridescent colors of the installation will serve the inhabitants of the city and its visitors by the end of October 2016. It will also become the backdrop for many artistic events, initiatives and exhibitions.

Jerzy Janiszewski was born in Poland, now he lives and works in Spain. Among others, he is known for designing the logos of: ‘Solidarity’, Polish Parliament, or Polish Presidency of the Council of Europe. His installations have changed the urban spaces in such cities as Madrid or Barcelona. In 2012 his solo exhibition was on the list of ten most interesting art exhibitions published by the Washington Post.
