We are at the beginning stages of what will be an epic creative mission (we have given ourselves 4 years to finish it!) but our goal is simple. To have as many countries on Earth take part in a a collaborative mural project. The theme of the mural is raising awareness on a global stage of endangered wildlife by highlighting the plight of endangered wildlife found in each respective country.
The artist representing a country will work on a 2m by 2m PVC banner with the assistance of a group of local school children in creating an image of an animal that is endangered in their country.. We are using PVC is it is easy to roll and the art medium used should also be easy to roll once dried. Also PVC banners are easy to hang. Ultimately our goal is to have nearly 200 panels which will then tour the world as an exhibition and potentially the banners will be joined together to create one immense mural.
At the same time the representing artist will then be able to create a public wall mural in their country of an endangered species from a different country, again educating others about species they may never have heard of. These murals will then be photographed and hopefully made into an educational art book which will be able to support a worldwide organisation (as yet not chosen) that advocates for animal/plant welfare and environmental issues.
Of course we are just launching the first phase of this project and as things develop it will become a much more detailed structure. Certainly the logistics will be an interesting puzzle to ponder but before any of that we need to take the idea and pitch it to individuals/groups who may be able to fund part or the whole of the project. With this in mind we are aiming to connect with at least 50 artists who are provisionally interested in being part of The Blue Orb Project which then means we can then show the human as well as the animal element of the project when we pitch it.
