Wosnan

In this Interview we are happy to feature Colombian street artist and illustrator Wosnan. His special style is centred on microscopic life with a touch of fantasy from outer world lost civilizations. Having started his career in Bogota, today his alien insects  have charmed a wide audience. He tells us about his future plans and how people  react to his works!

-What would you like to drink? Coffee, Tea, Beer, Soda or something else?

:: Coffee

-Introduce yourself to us – as if we had no idea who you were!

:: My name is Wosnan, I’m an urban author, born in Bogotá Colombia and i am interested in researching forms of ancestral biology and beliefs.

– Where does your (tag) Artist name come from?

:: My author name “wosnan” is inspired by a TV show Detective conan, Case Closed of Japanese origin, I liked this character very much and I adapted it with my real name and in this way wosnan was born.

-How do you define yourself and why? Artist? Street artist? Something else?

:: At the moment I do not consider myself an artist, I feel more related to the term author, illustrator or urban author.

– How did it all start for you, and what is it nowadays?

:: I started in this under the influence of my brother who also makes graffiti, I was interested in painting walls and then it was like a vice, it could not be stopped. Today I built a character who has learned a lot of things and who I am still learning, I also knew wonderful places and projects.

-Street art is mostly a visually stimulating form of art. To add one more sense to it, what music would you pick to accompany your art work?

:: I like listening to Post Punk, Colombian cumbia, Indie rock, New wave, experimental music and occasionally metal.

-In all forms of art, inspiration is crucial. What inspires you and how does that end up in your art?

I am inspired by nature, microscopic life, lost civilizations, insects, possible life in other worlds, cinema, strange literature.

-What is the hardest part while working on a piece of art?

Perhaps the most difficult and at the same time the most delicious thing is that the sketch is completely understood with the surface.

-Do you have any artist(s) you admire? Can you pinpoint what it is that makes them so special for you?

Roa, Blu, Zdzisław Beksínski, Jacek yerka, Hayao Miyazaki

-Which cities are the most inspiring for you as an artist?

Any abandoned place, jungle or any desert.

-What other passions do you have apart from art?

:: I like to go to the movies, write stories.

-Do you have a special project that you hope to achieve some day?

:: Yes, maybe projects related to animation maybe a short film.

-Tell us a bit more about your art; does it include symbolisms, messages or repeated patterns? How has it evolved?

The message that is repeated is the taste for exalting beings that are invisible to many people. I continue to investigate entomology. This has evolved thanks to research and testing.

– How long time does your art work, on walls, usually survive for?

The time that a work survives in the street is very variable, there are works that can last up to 7 years and others until only a month.

-What do you think, people feel or think of, when they see one of your works on the street?

Some people do not like it, it bothers them, others like it and ask more about it since it makes them curious, other people do not even see it.

-What are your creative plans for the future?

I want to learn more about animation, and sculpture.

-Is there a little wish you have that not many people know about?

My only wish is to continue painting for a long time.

-Is there a specific thought or message you would like to pass to our audience out there?

Respect everything around you and the environment will respect you.

Thank you for your interest and support.

Thank you Wosnan – It’s been great to know more about the mind behind such talented and inspiring works.
