The ibug festival is launching a crowdfunding campaign at VisionBakery which will finance the printing of a book  already completed volume number one.

For more than 10 years, the „Industriebrachenumgestaltung“ – short ibug – has been a constant of the art and cultural scene of western Saxony and far beyond. In the past two years, the internationally renowned urban art festival took place in the city of Chemnitz – at the premises of a former special-purpose machine factory in 2017, and in the remains of a decayed needle and board factory in 2018. About 35.000 visitors came to experience the mix of exciting art and urban culture, that breathed life back into the brownfields. Meanwhile, both buildings are abandoned again and wait to be demolished.

Crowdfunding of the ibug collection

To capture the fleeting impressions of the festival and its art to posterity, the ibug is planning a collection that covers each year´s artworks, starting with 2017. In addition to photographs of the graffiti, illustrations, murals, installations and collages, the book features the story of the particular brownfield, insights behind the scenes as well as artist portraits and interviews. A crowdfunding campaign at “VisionBakery” is supposed to finance the printing of already completed volume number one. Supporters will receive one of the first printed books or a lot of other thank-you gifts in return.

ibug 2019 in Reichenbach (Vogtland), Saxony

For its 14th edition the ibug is moving to Reichenbach (Vogtland). From mid-August, the „Bahnbetriebswerk“ – a former railway yard will turn into a canvas and playground for artists from all over the world. On two weekends – from 23 to 25 August and from 30 August to 1 September – art lovers and curious visitors will have the chance to admire the symbiosis of graffiti, illustrations and installations, performance and multimedia. In addition to the exhibition, there will be a varied side program of guided tours, movies, panel discussions, artist talks, an art market and music. In between the festival weekends, schools will have the chance to learn about art at the area.

Since the first ibug in 2006 the festival developed into an internationally well-known hotspot for urban art. Traditionally at the last weekends of August a fallow in western Saxony transforms into a synthesis of the arts by an experimental mix of genres, materials and techniques with reference to its past and architecture.

The transformation of the industrial wasteland – ibug for short – has been an institution in the West Saxon art and culture scene for more than ten years. For two years, the internationally renowned festival for urban art was also a guest in Chemnitz; 2017 on the site of the former VEB Spezialmaschinenfabrik and last year in the former needle and blanks factory of VEB Kombinat Textima. A total of just under 35,000 visitors experienced in “Spemafa” and “Naplafa” for a short time a mixture of exciting art and urban culture that breathed new life into the industrial wasteland. Meanwhile, both objects, as well as former host cities of the ibug, are once again abandoned to decay.
