“Barcelona Antifeixista”
in1936, the “Office of Information and Propaganda of the CNT FAI” will commission various photographers to capture what was happening on the street. That mural is inspired in one of those photographs. The original, by d’Antoni Campanyà, dates from August 28th, 1936, one month after the cop d’estat. It belongs to a series of portraits of the militians who conquered the “Military headquarters of the Bruc”, (which will begin to be called “Military headquarters of Bakunin”). The importance of this series is that this photographs become the certification of the Social Revolution’s victtory, which portray the people’s victory on the military headquarters (a symbol of the last national defense in the area).
It is not just the stop of the putsch in this part of the country but that the Social Revolution began. Factories and lands were collectivized, wealth and resources redistributed , the spaces and symbols were assaulted.
Painting an imatge with that history has token a special significance I painted it on “Kasa de la Muntanya”, an old Police headquarter that it’s a squatted house from 1989till today. Despite the defeat, the 40 years of dictatorship … the antifascist spirit remains intact in Barcelona.
The artist thanks all those who has made it real, and specially to Observatori de la Vida Quotidiana for sharing your history knowledge, and Montana Colors who has donated suport to the intervention, as always.

You may consider a modest donation — however much you can afford, when it comes from the heart, it’s the kind of gesture that makes us warm with appreciation.
