Germany’s recently formed “Thealang Collective” (artists Elmar Karla and LAPIZ) painted EL CUCO on a backyard wall in Hamburg St. Pauli. The mural portrays the impact of today’s (pre-Corona?) society: the eternally growing economy symbolised by the donations for the partially destroyed Notre Dame, and its effect of constantly destroying the environment, here symbolised by the burning green lung – the Amazon Rainforest. Combining traditional painting with technical stencils, Thealang Collective created a truly unique piece of art.

The mural was created by Thealang and was painted in 2020 in the Suburb of Sankt Pauli in Hamburg, Germany. The total mural measures about 20 x 6 m ( 65 x 19 ft).

El Cuco is a mystical shapeshifting creature who steals the souls of innocent children.

About Thealang Collective
The Thealang Collective (TLC) was founded by the artists ELMAR KARLA and LAPIZ.
Elmar Karla is a trained painter, taking inspiration from comics and is known for his ‘Homeless Heroes’ series. Lapiz on the other hand is a self-trained street artist painting huge socio-critical stencils. They share a sweet tooth for cake and a common history of having lived and painted in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Both painted extensively internationally and took part at well-known festivals and exhibitions such as the Ibug, Meeting of Styles, Grenoble Street Art Fest and the Street Art Museum Amsterdam.
