As we roll towards the end of a cool, rainy summer BSMT Space has another bold show on the way. FREE, a new solo show by gallery favourite DAVE TOWERS is here from the 3rd – 12th of September.
Artist Dave Towers creates eye-catching bold typographic hand painted artworks which capture the zeitgeist. He is inspired by the Japanese Wabi Sabi, a worldview based on the acceptance of and beauty to be found in imperfection.
‘Essentially my work is a form of calligraphy with the brushwork. As humans we warm to the humanity in imperfection. I think this is part of the appeal of my work. The acceptance of its imperfections makes the work feel authentic – something that’s less common these days’.
His forthcoming exhibition is centred around the experience people have had as a result of the pandemic. The collection of 20 pieces are a selection of thoughts and ideas pieced together as one cohesive whole. All the artworks are created by hand with Molotow markers, each original piece totally unique. ‘I love the unpredictability of creating artworks by hand rather than digitally’, Towers explains, ‘the ink has a lovely humanity to it, as it’s been dragged by hand across the canvas.’
‘These new works are influenced by the experience of working for 16 months working in a small, dark bedroom. It’s the continued evolution of my design process and an aesthetic I’ve been working on since 2012.’
FREE opens with a private view on September 2nd with the show running until September 12th.
