Artnight: Youth Culture Night at Rheydt 036

Together Creative and Strong on the Streets – Streetwork and Street Art Unite Our Youth! The Artnight event, as part of the Youth Culture Night at Rheydt 036, brought together local and international artists with the key themes of “No Racism,” “Ecologic and Social Justice,” and “Unity.”

Organized in collaboration with LikeStyler and supported by I Support Street Art, the night gave young participants the chance to express themselves creatively, engaging in activities like spray-painting objects, designing T-shirts, and using stencils to voice their perspectives on important societal issues.

One of the highlights of the event was the wooden spray practice wall, where kids had the opportunity to practice their graffiti skills in a supportive and creative environment. In addition, a legal wall was available, allowing the youth to create murals and paste-ups without fear of penalties. This authorized space for public art helped foster responsible street art, encouraging creativity while promoting messages of social justice and environmental responsibility.

Inspired by Carl Rogers’ humanistic pedagogy, the event emphasized self-expression and creativity in a nurturing environment. Street art served as a platform for youth to explore key themes such as peace, environmental protection, and community unity, while also fostering teamwork and mutual respect. The event was energized with a live Hip-Hop performance by SIMAH, further reinforcing the evening’s themes of unity and social justice.

Beyond this event, Rheydt 036’s street work continues to offer vital support through outreach programs, such as at the Rheydter fair, helping hard-to-reach youth by providing guidance and resources.

This Artnight demonstrated how art and activism can unite to empower the next generation and inspire meaningful discussions on social justice, environmental awareness, and community unity.
