ArtWalk 5 has been completed, leaving a unique imprint of contemporary art in Patras and the whole country this year! The 5th International Street Art Festival of Patras ArtWalk 5 was a huge success this year as well. In one of the most difficult years for all of humanity, the Art in Progress team managed to enrich the city with colour and optimism in a tired public space both conceptually and aesthetically.
Our daily life is changing rapidly, the artistic expressiveness and the public space are affected as never before in the modern era, but not in Patras. Against the difficult times, contemporary art fulfilled its purpose in the best way, the artists and their works transported us to new creative worlds sending messages of historical memory, extroversion, solidarity and the message that we shall keep “our heads high”.
Art in Progress and its civil society, despite the international uncertainty caused by the covid-19 pandemic and adhering to all safety protocols, managed to host for another year some of the most important street artists with international experience from all over the world..
The artists were inspired by important historical moments for Greece and the world, such as the 100th birthday of Melina Mercouri, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, the 65th anniversary of the death of Albert Einstein and the 75th anniversary of the fall of atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, gave the city a new dynamic and a unique modern character through art.
The street artists who left their personal mark on this year’s event, creating 8 unique murals on selected walls of the urban fabric of Patras are: Asier, Edmon1419, Jay Kaes, KLE, Leandro Bustamante, NSN997, Siguel and Silver Formz & Monos Cwtos.
This year’s murals created as part of ArtWalk 5, as well as the event as a whole, were presented and occupied by the international and domestic press, as well as social media.
Looking forward to ArtWalk 6 in 2021!!!
