Elisa Capdevila has painted a community mural in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat Barcelona. The project, framed within the Pla Integral Les Planes – Blocs la Florida, is part of the council’s initiative and Rebobinart has been the responsible for its production. This initiative aims to empower several social collectives of the city through art and, this time, the project has focused on the elderly people of the district, aiming to encourage the coexistence between groups by using art as a tool for social and public space transformation.
The project has been divided into two phases. The fist has consisted of several participatory sessions, where the artist has met with the elderly people of the district. During those sessions, Capdevila developed several participatory dynamics in order to think together about a discourse that fosters coexistence, mutual awareness and a communal feeling of this social group.
After these sessions, the artist, always based on the contributions of the elderly people, designed a visual composition seeking to enhance social relationships in the area with the elderly while contributing to add a new value to their urban space. The mural, that has been painted in the block number 3 in the Plaza de la Florida, shows two old women from the neighbourhood who are reading. Following her artistic style with a realistic approach, Capdevila has been able to capture human relationships with a great sensitivity.
