The Fabio Petani artwork “Calcium Sulfate & Dracaena Trifasciata” in Grotte in the province of Agrigento, is inspired by the Biddina, a legendary local figure of a girl who for love threw herself into a swamp and turned into a snake. The Sansevieria or snake plant is thus linked to the typical landscape of the Agrigento hinterland. The orchid in the foreground is also linked to the period of the intervention as this flower is often used to adorn the altar of churches on the occasion of certain holidays such as Easter.
The chemical element “Calcium Sulfate” inserted in this work is richly present in the local caves and the result is a mix of elegance and harmony that integrates with the surrounding urban landscape.
