The 204 Building in downtown of Gainesville, USA, got a fresh new look with the work of Peeta/ (Manuel Di Rita). This fine work explores the potential of sculptural lettering, both in painting and in sculpture.

Iryna Kanishcheva, the curator behind this amazing mural, dreamed for a long time to curate a mural on this downtown building for the last 3 years, and now with the help of Ryan Frankel and the opportunity provided by the owner of the building Joseph Semrani this was achieved with a great end result.

The artist that created the mural was Italian Manuel Di Rita, also know as Peeta. He “is a graffiti artist since 1993 currently living in Venice. He is a member of the EAD crew (Padova, Italy), FX and RWK crews (New York City) and has participated in graffiti jams and Meeting of Styles events in Europe and the Americas. His work explores the potential of sculptural lettering, both in painting and in sculpture.”

In this mural he used his 3D optical illusion signature, with 3 colors and embracing the geometrics of the building to complete his monochromatic art.

Ryan S. Frankel purpose: “Gainesville is an amazing city, with a progressive, diverse, and accepting community. I felt that Iryna had worked hard to bring a world-class artist to Gainesville and all that was missing was funding. The CRA was fantastic to work with and we managed to get it done. I couldn’t be more floored by Peeta’s work and am excited to hear the community’s response.”

Since 2015, The GNV Urban Art website [gnvurbanart.com] has informed Gainesville about all relevant urban art activities. It is a liaison between artists and community that supports, promotes, and administers outstanding public art events with the goals of beautification, restoration, and raising awareness. GNV URBAN ART LLC is operated by University of Florida MBA Candidate Iryna Kanishcheva. The inspiration, passion, international networking and years of experience led her to establish innovative projects in Florida and her home country, Ukraine.
