It´s time for ibug No.12! This year the festival for urban art and culture takes place in the city of Chemnitz. During the summer the abandoned VEB SPEMAFA, a former and long forgotten factory for special-purpose machines, is transformed into a synthesis of the arts.
In mid-August, more than 100 artists from all over the world come together and reshape the area in a week long creative-phase by murals, graffiti, illustrations, installations and multimedia-art. The results are open to public viewing in two festival-weekends – from the 25th to the 27th of August and again from the 1st to the 3rd of September. As always there will be a colorful program of movies, panel-discussions, guided tours, artist-talks, an art-market and, of course, parties.
The ibug´s roots go back to the year 2006, the small saxonian city Meerane, an artist called Tasso and his pursuit of development. The first small get-together over 10 years ago meanwhile became an internationally known festival for urban art and culture. Traditionally taking place at the last weekend in August somewhere in West-Saxony, an industrial brownfield is opened for Streetart-, Graffiti-, and Media-Artists from all over the world. Each one of them brings in his or her creativity into a synthesis of the arts. The mix of genres, styles, materials and techniques as well as the history of the brownfield play a key role in the annual experiment.
The ibug´s aim is to revive the abandoned by contemporary, urban art to remember the forgotten. With the remains of saxonian industrial culture in focus a link between history, culture and architecture shall be pointed out. As the culmination, a festival including music, film, design and of course art carries on the ibug´s spirit and wants to serve the people as an inspiration for the development of their region.
