The 17th edition of the ibug, short for “Industriebrachenumgestaltung”, took place in September in the former paper factory in Flöha. In a digital tour, visitors can explore the festival site and see the works of art that were created. Around 70 artists from all over Europe, as well as from Brazil, Puerto Rico, and the USA, traveled to the festival of urban art in Saxony. They brought the 5,000 square meter site to life for the second time, turning it into a work of art. Over 10,000 curious people and art lovers experienced a mix of graffiti and paintings, illustrations and installations, sculptures, and multimedia projects during two festival weekends. The festival was rounded off with a colourful supporting program including tours, films, artist talks, an art market, and music. In addition, around 500 students explored the temporary exhibition and took advantage of the educational opportunities offered during the festival.
For those who missed the ibug 2022 or want to recall the exhibition, there is now a virtual walkthrough available. In a digital tour, visitors can explore the festival site and see the works of art that were created. With a click, you can also look at additional images and videos, as well as information about the creators.
This year, the ibug is moving to the Leipzig area for the first time. The exact location cannot be announced for organizational reasons. Art fans should definitely note the last weekend in August or the first weekend in September. The festival team is still looking for active support for this year’s project, including work assignments for preparing the site, caring for the artists, or planning the program. Many helping hands will also be needed during the festival itself.

Since the first Industriebrachenumgestaltung in 2006, the ibug has become a globally recognized festival for urban art. Each year, a site in Saxony is opened as a temporary exhibition during the last weekend in August. The focus of the international artists is on experimentation with genres, materials, and techniques, as well as the history of the site and its architecture. The ibug team has been recognized for its commitment numerous times, including the “PlusPunkt Kultur” award from the Federal Association for Cultural Children and Youth Education in 2010, the “So geht Sächsisch” idea competition for tourism in Saxony in 2019, and the “Denkzeit Event” competition of the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture, and Tourism in 2020 for creative ideas and innovative concepts in the implementation of existing or new events under Corona conditions.
The ibug 2022 was supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, the Fonds Soziokultur, the Cultural Region Erzgebirge-Mittelsachsen and the City of Flöha.
