In August 2019 we began the revitalization of another part of the building that I manage. This time, the bottom of the central courtyard. A small outdoor stretch, with some aging walls, overlooking nature and the skyline where from the Southwest (Sudoeste) neighborhood you can see the lights of the vibrant Águas Claras neighborhood with hundreds of tall buildings about 10 kilometers away.

In designing the project, I wanted it to be a pleasurable and fun activity for me as a manager, unlike the big works with the huge responsibility and emotional strain I’ve faced in recent years. I reached the goal; artist Igor Sales (Instagram: @ igorsales9288) brought motivation, joy and great enthusiasm.

Working mornings, afternoons and evenings in a row, he made beautiful graffiti that mixes Brasilia figures with various health-related activities, as requested in the briefing. You can see the Brasilia Cathedral, JK Memorial, JK Bridge and the Brasilia´s National Stadium, in between with a mother breastfeeding a baby, a wheelchair athlete, a lab technician and a friendly clown of joy playing with a hairless child because of a chemotherapy.

Hospitals around the world use the technique to brighten specific wards. The work excited the building’s owners, employees, and customers. The area now has many more goers who do meals, readings, small meetings and even playful activities with children and the elderly.

Graffiti is part of major urban centers. There are sights in Sao Paulo (Batman Alley and Hulk Alley), Rio de Janeiro (Olympic Boulevard), Wynwood Walls in Miami, East Side gallery in Berlin, several New York City locations etc.

I suggested to some paint manufacturers and portals specialized in painting to make a competition between condominiums from all over Brazil. The symbolism of a trophy for the liquidator and the artist and a basket of products is already good enough. Manufacturers and their dealers will sell more products, encourage artists from all over the country and beautify Brazilian cities.

Hire a local artist or graffiti artist to decorate part of your hospital, shed, club, store, restaurant, or condominium. It changes the environment and the mood of the people.
