The artist Julián Castillo and a team of young Colombians have made the largest pencil mural in the world in Roldanillo, Colombia. They used more than a thousand pencils in the creation of the mural that has an area of 84.86 square meters.The title of the work is “The concept of absolute reality” and represents the figure of a man and a girl holding a diamond. Castillo and his team used standard pencil and red pencil. The mural is protected by several layers of acrylic, an acrylic resin.
“The mural was made with the aim of innovating with an unusual work of art and with the purpose of promoting art in a post-conflict zone such as the north of the Cauca Valley in Colombia and giving our work to know,” said Castillo in your application materials. In addition to being an artist, Castillo is a tattoo artist and art teacher. During the 48 days of making the mural, several of Castillo’s students helped with the mural. At the end of the elaboration of the mural, the whole community was involved.
“The inhabitants of Roldanillo, in addition to the material, also helped us by bringing us food and other materials,” said Castillo.
Guinness World Records recognizes several records for murals made with innovative materials. Some examples are the largest makeup mural that has an area of 51 square meters in Turkey and the largest mural of coins of 24 square meters that made in South Korea.
