Love Child is the new mural from artist Chor Boogie, who was invited by the Punto Urban Art Museum in 24 Peabody St. Salem, MA @ Lafayette and Congress.
The new Mural is a celebration of colors and carries an inspirational message. Who else would better describe the work and explain the message behind, than the artist himself:
ARTIST STATEMENT
TheLOVEchild – the TRUTH behind this piece is based on the MISSOKO BWITI tradition from the MASSANGO and PUNU tribe I joined in Africa… Every detail has a significant meaning, from the Shining stars within us all to the All Seeing eye sights set on paradise. The reflections in the eyes capture what the image is looking at in real time from which happens to be a parent holding a child’s hand into the future.
The traditional colors of the BWITI are RED and WHITE, which are are the colors of the healing body paint known as Pygmy paste. RED represents the BLOOD that flows through are veins and the menstrual blood that creates life and WHITE represents the purity of the soul and the purity of the seed that helps give birth.
The headdress carries the dew drops of life and cowrie shells. Within ceremony we are decorated with healing plant medicines like iboga from the bush representing the earth element.
That then leads me into the importance and relation of the elements and the senses. The background consists of the ocean water element leading into the horizon of the sky that is the air element down to the element of fire within the golden heart which I received from my ancestors.
The flower in the mouth represents the beauty of the voice that comes from within, blossoming outward into the universe speaking nothing but the TRUTH, as the love child’s arms are wide open ready to embrace you.
Great work Chor Boogie!!
