At his first public wall in Rome, the Dutch artist Does was invited by Mirko Pierri to paint at the Einstein-Bachelet Institute in the #Primavalle district.
In this school, thanks to the teacher Laura Squarcia and the Director, Mirko Pierri, curator and artistic director of the “a.DNA” association, is leading a street art workshop with a group of around 15 boys and girls to paint some murals within school spaces.
The opportunity to invite DOES for the Uppercut Fest gave us the opportunity to present it to these kids, so the Dutch artist decided to leave a gift on their school, empathizing a lot with them also through the choice of colors and of the elements with which the lettering was composed: a heart-shaped O that transforms into a “goodbye” hug.
Now this “hug” painted by #Does welcomes students and teachers every day at the school entrance.
Shadows, lines and lights expertly combined together for a work typically based on the imagination and style of the artist, recognize throughout the world for his lettering and the huge walls painted with geometric shapes that always take inspiration from his name, in line with the international writing and graffiti culture. For more than twenty years, he has refined his style and technique by dealing with ever-changing materials and supports, arriving at public art with roots in writing. He is one of the greatest exponents worldwide.
It was a unique opportunity to meet him, therefore, for the students of Primavalle, who had a practical demonstration of what is possible to achieve for their neighborhood and their school with a few colors and a great desire to get involved.
You may consider a modest donation — however much you can afford, when it comes from the heart, it’s the kind of gesture that makes us warm with appreciation.
