This work is the result of a long project begun in October 2018. Federico Manzone, Riccardo Buonafede, Noeyes and Simone Carraro were guests of an artistic residence organized by the City of Milan, in collaboration with BJCEM and “Africa e Mediterraneo”.
The artists worked during the design phase inside the Fabbrica del Vapore and actively involved with some laboratories the boys of the State Art School of Brera, the boys of the State Scientific High School A. Volta and two reception centers for asylum seekers.
The result is a painting of 100 square meters. The story of a man and a woman of different origins, who begin a journey. A journey to escape from war, to the violence of the human being and that often connects these people with the fear of death.
Represented inside a postcard, with a map and a route, we preferred to depict the journey as an opportunity. An opportunity for growth, discovery, adaptation, sharing. The title of the work is taken from a song written by Pietro Gori in 1895, which denounced the exile of the rebel Italians. “Our homeland is the whole world, our law is freedom”.
You may consider a modest donation — however much you can afford, when it comes from the heart, it’s the kind of gesture that makes us warm with appreciation.
